TRACKING THE GREAT MIGRATION - 2023 - 2024

Day 1: Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is known for its distinctive landscape, which is dominated by ancient baobab trees, rolling hills, and vast grassy savannas. The park is also home to a diverse range of wildlife, including large herds of elephants, as well as lions, leopards, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, and more.

One of the unique features of Tarangire is the Tarangire River, which flows through the park and attracts large numbers of wildlife during the dry season. Additionally, Tarangire is a birdwatcher's paradise, with over 500 species of birds found in the park, including the endemic ashy starling and yellow-collared lovebird.

A picnic lunch with a view of the river is a great way to take it all in, but you'll have to keep on your toes as the local monkey population does its best to separate you from your lunch!

After your day's game drive you will head back to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Tarangire - Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you will depart for the Serengeti National Park, which is known worldwide for its incredible wildlife sightings and beautiful landscapes. On the way, you will stop at the Olduvai Gorge Museum, where you can learn about the history of the area and the evolution of early humans. After lunch, you will embark on an afternoon game drive in the Serengeti, where you can see a wide range of wildlife, such as lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and many more.

Oldupai Gorge Museum: Visiting the Olduvai Gorge Museum is a fascinating experience that takes you on a journey through the history of human evolution. You will learn about the discovery of early human fossils, see replicas of tools and artifacts, and gain a deeper understanding of our evolutionary story. The stunning views of the gorge and surrounding landscapes only add to the overall experience.

Maasai boma visit: Visiting a Maasai boma is a unique cultural experience where you can learn about the traditions and customs of the Maasai people. You'll get a chance to see their homes, interact with the locals, and even participate in their daily activities. It's a fascinating opportunity to gain insight into a way of life that has remained largely unchanged for centuries.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park - Central Serengeti

Central Serengeti is located in the heart of the Serengeti National Park and is known for its open grasslands and kopjes. It is home to various wildlife species, including the big five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) and is a great spot for game drives and wildlife photography.

Alternatively, you may wish to add a sunrise hot air balloon safari and champagne breakfast to your safari. This is an unforgettable experience, discuss with your safari expert about how you can add this to your itinerary.

Later you'll return to your lodge for breakfast before departing with a packed lunch for a day long exploration of the park. Your driver will choose the best route to maximize your chances of seeing both the Wildebeest Migration and the Big Five.

Day 4: Serengeti - Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, you get right back on the road heading to Ngorongoro Crater.

You start your day early by getting up before dawn to begin on a sunrise game drive. See the clouds unveiling the sun which enlighten the savannah as predators such as leopards and lions hunt for their morning meal.

In the afternoon you will start to drive to Ngorongoro (optional stopover at olduvai), with different routes you are guaranteed to spot thousands upon thousands of animals in herds, such as wildebeests and zebras migrating side by side.

Dinner and overnight on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater or in nearby Karatu town, based on the standard and type of accommodation requested from our options.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro is considered to be the Eighth Wonder of the World. When you get your first glimpse of this vast, verdant caldera from the panoramic viewpoint, you'll soon understand why it has earned such a lofty reputation.

Ngorongoro is home to over 120 species of mammal including the fabled Big Five, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is one of the most sought after safari destinations in the world. It's a particularly good place to see the endangered black rhinoceros enjoying a lonely meal out on the grass plains, as well as a place to see large numbers of hippopotamus enjoying the cool water.

From the comfort of your pop-up roof vehicle, you'll be able to observe and photograph some of Africa's most recognizable animals. The crater is home to a large number of predators including lions, leopards, cheetahs, jackals, and hyenas, as well as a large population of wildebeest, zebras, antelope, cape buffalo, and more. CALVING SEASON - JANUARY - MARCH

Day 1: Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, you will have approximately a two-hour drive to Tarangire National Park. Along the way, you will pass bustling Maasai villages and plains that have become synonymous with images of Africa.

This park is often referred to as the “home of elephants”, meaning you will have a great chance to spot elephants in large groups gathering around the Tarangire River. The river runs throughout the year, providing a vital source of water for all the animals of the Tarangire National Park during the dry season.

Lined with Baobab and Acacia trees, the river is regularly visited by the park’s large elephant population as well as other herbivores such as zebra and antelopes.

A picnic lunch with a view of the river is a great way to take it all in, but you'll have to keep on your toes as the local monkey population does its best to separate you from your lunch!

Driving through the park you'll also have the opportunity to see lions, leopards, cape buffalo, and a huge variety of antelopes. If you're particularly lucky, you might even see endangered animals such as the Greater Kudu or the Fringe-Eared Oryx.

After your day's game drive you will heading back to your accommodation for dinner and overnight

Day 2: Tarangire - Serengeti National Park

We'll take an early breakfast, as we've got a big day of exploration and adventure ahead of us!

We’ll begin the day with a beautiful natural scenery drive heading to the Serengeti. While on the way you will pass through the mist-shrouded rainforests of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you might be lucky enough to glimpse cape buffalo, baboons, or even elephants and leopards in the dense undergrowth.

The journey to Serengeti National Park is a nearly four-hour drive, you can opt to break up your drive with one of the activities outlined below.

It’s important to understand that extra activities attract an additional cost. Speak with your safari expert about which additional activities you would prefer to be added to your itinerary.

Oldupai Gorge Museum: SSometimes known as the Cradle of Mankind, the Oldupai Gorge Museum commemorates some of the oldest evidence of human habitation ever found. Here you can see some of the oldest fossil evidence in the world of human habitation. Visit the Oldupai Gorge Museum to learn more about the human journey, and take in the stunning views of this stark gorge country.

Maasai boma visit: Pay a visit to one of the famous Maasai bomas, where you'll have the opportunity to witness (and participate in) traditional Maasai dance, tour an authentic Maasai village, and even do a little souvenir shopping at the local market.
