Set out from Mto wa Mbu by tuktuk, bicycle, or your safari jeep and head to Miwaleni Lake—a green oasis tucked beneath the Great Rift Valley wall. Walk the papyrus-lined shore where Rangi artisans collect reeds for mats and baskets, then follow the river upstream. If you’re up for a touch of adventure, continue along a short rock-hopping trail to the waterfall. The final approach is bouldery, but your reward is a cool pool beneath a 15-metre cascade—perfect for a quick dip and great photos. Total outing ~3 hours.

  1. Meet in Mto wa Mbu; short transfer to Miwaleni by tuktuk, bicycle, or safari jeep.
  2. Gentle walk around the papyrus-fringed lake; stories of local crafts and traditions.
  3. Follow the riverside path toward the falls; brief rocky sections near the end.
  4. Arrive at the waterfall for rest, photos, and (conditions permitting) a refreshing swim.
  5. Return along the river and transfer back to town.
