What to Expect on This 5-Day Marangu Route

The Marangu Route—Africano Paraiso’s most budget-friendly Kilimanjaro path—winds straight up to the summit and back along the same track, with comfortable mountain huts for each night instead of tents. Because daily altitude gains are steep, this route suits experienced trekkers.

Typically completed in five days, we strongly recommend extending to six by adding an extra night at Horombo Hut on Day 4 for an acclimatization walk. That extra day dramatically improves your summit success.

On Day 4, you’ll begin your summit push around midnight from Kibo Hut. The trail to Uhuru Peak is long, cold, and steep — but incredibly rewarding. After reaching the summit at sunrise, you’ll descend to Horombo Hut for overnight recovery.
